Alliance for the Great Lakes

Working toward a vision of a healthy Great Lakes for all people and wildlife, forever, the Alliance’s mission is to conserve and restore the world's largest freshwater resource using policy, education, and local efforts, ensuring a healthy Great Lakes and clean water for generations of people and wildlife.

Headquartered in Chicago, the Alliance also has staff in Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin, who work alongside a constituency of more than 40,000 active volunteers, advocates, and donors across the region for Great Lakes protection, restoration, and environmental justice.

The Alliance’s work benefits the entire Great Lakes region, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York in the United States, and the two Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec – and all the people, plants, and animals that depend on it. More than 40 million people in the region get their drinking water from the Great Lakes.

The Alliance partners and champions businesses who share our belief that the Great Lakes are a precious resource to be protected and a vital economic driver for prosperity in our region. We believe that people have the power to influence necessary changes to solve these problems. The Alliance works at the individual level with local community leaders and residents and also to communicate the region’s needs with government leaders at the local, state, and federal level.
